WELCOME

Surrounded by fields and woodland, yet not far from Newbury and Reading, we are in the happy position of being able to provide children with a balanced view of both town and country experience.

We are a school that strives for excellence in all that we do.

We are all very proud of our great school which has extremely high aspirations for all children, both academically and in terms of their pastoral care. There is a strong family ethos, underpinned by good old-fashioned values such as respect, co-operation, care and responsibility. Values Education is core to our work at the school.

Our mission statement is  Valuing ourselves. Valuing everybody.

Essentially, it means that we can develop an appreciation for and tolerance of others around us when we develop our core personal values, which helps us to know and understand ourselves.

The staff are highly motivated, hard-working and passionate about children's learning. They are learning focussed and are committed to personal continuing professional development to ensure that they have a good understanding of subjects that they teach and the best way to help children learn.

Governors are very active in their roles and parents are supportive of their children and the school. Everyone works together, which enables our children to have a successful education at Beenham Primary School.

Every single child at Beenham is given the opportunity to achieve their absolute best. We have designed a curriculum that is unique to our school and which we believe inspires children and fosters a love of learning. As well as providing children with opportunities to apply basic, English and Maths skills in context, there is a strong focus on first-hand experience such as visits, workshops and role play.

Our curriculum also enables children to shape their own learning and pursue personal interests and talents. It encourages them to be independent and develop leadership skills in a range of contexts. It also places them in situations where they can work with all ages and abilities across the school. Some topics even allow the exploration of business and enterprise.  All children have the chance to work outdoors during the course of the year and "Forest School" is a fortnightly feature in the foundation stage. Children like the topic style curriculum and they say it helps them “learn a lot” and is enjoyable.

In addition we bring specialist teachers in to help with music and French is taught throughout key stage 2.

The school has a wide range of early morning, lunchtime and after school enrichment clubs, ranging from judo, street dance and early morning fitness, to cookery, environmental activities and a reading club. We even have a school bank.

We provide after school care until 5.30pm from Monday to Thursday and there is also a breakfast club from 8am until 8.30am daily.

We also offer additional support for any vulnerable groups of children.

The school was seen as a “GOOD” school by OFSTED in September 2017.

The outdoor grounds are idyllic. The school is surrounded by fields and has a pond, growing area, peaceful garden and extensive play facilities.

We are always keen to welcome visitors and will be happy to show you round.
